Hey guys,

I am trying to soft-mod my 8800GTS into Quadro 4600 with rivatuner so I can have Realview in Solidworks. I tried before, it worked.

Later one of my computer memory died and i switched back to 8800 due to stability issue. Now i have new memory but cannot get the realview to work any more.

I followed the tutorial here:

Any idea how to solve the problem?

Thanks in advance.

thanks gwubs, but how do i do that? what is a patched driver?

visit guru3d.com and read forums. Install Rivatuner, which is the best tweak tool in the world. Pretty much what you do is download driver from nvidia.com, unprotect it, patch it, and install it. Then from Rivatuner, install strap driver, and turn on professional features, also from Rivatuner. Lots of tutorials on guru3d for this. If you can't risk BSOD, or even worse don't know what BSOD is, then you might want to just shell out for a Real Quadro card. They are not too expensive anymore. BTW, the 8800 cannot be turned into a real Quadro, but it seems possible to get Realview in SW. The last truly moddable card was the 6800 card.
Good Luck

Although it improves performance tremendously for me in SW, this article tells it still only gives 50% of the performance of a fx1700... still worth it though

Did you by any chance use a different Quadro driver version when you modded it the second time? And maybe a silly question, did you verify that your OS sees a Quadro right now?

thank pietje,

I went with a new Fx580 card in the end. Don't feel like spending more time to make the 8800 work. plus i will be getting full features from the new card.

Thanks again.

Sorry guys I feel like I need to boost this post again because something is not right with my system.

I use to use quadro 4600 moded from a 8800gts. after first done this, driver was picked up by windows 7 and realview works great. then there is some problem i switched back to 8800gts. when i moded it again into 4600, realview stopped working. i tried different drivers it didn;t work.

so i thought it might be my video card's problem. then i purchased a fx580 from amazon and now, still no realview.i tried various drivers and uninstalled solidworks 3 times, plus creating new user profile in windows, etc etc. no luck.

any one know what got stucked?

thanks,

Check Tools > Options > System Options > Performance to see whether the Use software OpenGL option has been selected.

to CorBlimeyLimey

Yes and it is shaded out which I cannot uncheck.

i got it, closed a part file and unchecked under general options.

thank you very much CorBlimeyLimey

I feel like a fool not telling you that earlier myself... it seemed to obvious to me to mention it. Your earlier, successful softmodding activities made me think you were probably familiar with this setting and the necessity to have no models opened to be able to change it. Sorry to hear you now bought a FX580 unnecessarily.

I would not conclude that the 580FX purchase was uneccessary. The Real Quadro gives you realview AND performance. The 8800 hack only gives you realview. Contrary to the information given on techarp.com, you cannot really quadro any nvidia card after the 6xxx series. If you doubt this, check that the "unified back buffer" is turned on in a hacked 8800. If it is not (and I'm very sure that is won't be), you don't have a real quadro. "Unwinder" the genius responsible for RivaTuner says so, and he should know.
