Has anyone ever experienced quadruple butterfly (4th eccentricty) valve design?

Yes. There is a company in Germany, Quadrax? I think that claims superior performance because of this technology. Is it hype or reality I don't know. Naturally the claims in their advertisements will state many improvements. Regardless if its concentric, single, double, or triple offset, they all have strengths and weaknesses inherent in their designs. So there are applications where each type performs well enough for their price.

I read flyer of the company. I don't understand how can one get circular periphery (frustum) on 'CONE' irrsepective of whether it is circular or elliptical cone. Do you have any idea?
 
There is a flyer thaqt you can download from their website which shows the difference between a typical triple offset and their quadruple design. In a typical triple offset, the disc is an angled cut through a cone shape. From a top view, the axis of the triple offset cone is angled from the pipeline axis. However, in the triple offset, when viewed from the side, the axis of the cone is parallel with the pipeline axis. The difference with teh quadruple seems to be that in the side view, the cone axis is also angled slightly from the pipeline axis. The effect is that the seat gets stretched in all directions when valve is closed. With triple offset, the sides of the seat are streched and the top and bottom do not.

 
Got your point, but not sure this is what their modification is.
My basic Question is how can one get cylindrical frustum on 'tapered' elliptical cone which forms there seat/seal and which they are claiming is suitable to put elastomers / lip seals etc. So it is not a cone in cone sealing like triple offset valve but a cylinder in cylinder sealing?
I know my query is too technical but just can't supress my curiosity [smile] and like you said in your first post "Is it hype or reality I don't know"

Hey, I don't get it either. Just sharing what I have seen. Personally, I believe it is more hype than reality. Just looking for some sort of advantage in the market. Anything really good that makes a difference is usually Patented.
 
There are Muller Co-ax and Quadax. Essentially they look the same and maybe the same company. These valves are partially produced in China I believe because one chinese vendor also has the same valve on the website. Now, they seems to have replaced troubled triple offset applications. Has not heard any negative issues so far. A bit pricy though.

Any practical example?

I also find interesting Your hint about probable Chinese manufacturing (... I'll search the web about that)

Quad offset valves were selected to replace leaking triple offset in cryogenic application. The way the quad offset seals can also be achived in other ways. They made it sound much more complicated than what it is actually. Personally, I believe that the attention to details is what makes the difference in the performance of offset valves among true manufacturers(not outsourcers^^;).
