Hello,
[/indent]I am in need of some general help with a somewhat complex quality situation I am experiencing at our rubber mixing facility. We have 2 3D Banbury rubber mixers that are mirrored to one another in our mixing department. One is used for natural/whites and the other is used for colors/black. We are continually having an issue with cured lump contamination within our mixing process on both mixers.
We have verified all raw materials for viscosity/PH as well as making sure our cure system is being dosed correctly. We are using internal probing as well as external IR temps to verify the mixers are running at correct temps, however we are getting hotspots for the internal probes that are 30-50f+ of the drop temp. For instance we have a chlorobutyl compound that normally drops onto our mill at 235f and about 5m45sec of mix time but we are dropping @ 4m20sec at a drop temp of 215f and getting internal readings of the rubber at 250-260f.
To go along with this the mixer charts show several points of temp rise and fall during the whole mix instead of the continual rise with the normal fall during sweeps. We are in the process of verifying the thermocouple seating and making sure the mixer wear is not substantial but in the interim I was hoping to see if anyone had any ideas on what could be causing our batches to pick up cured lumps or scorch like they have started to over the past 6 months? We run cleaner stock about ever 1200lbs as a containment measure but even it has not stopped the issue as it happens during mixing and is not just tacky material hanging on to the rotors.
