Queries related to surface in FEMAP

Hi,
I have recently started using FEMAP and have few queries regarding same.
1. when I create surface using "surface from Edge curves", along with surface new set of curves also develops, this becomes a hindrance for me to proceed further. where as a Boundary surface command doesn’t do so.
2. If i choose to create all surface then by boundary surface, then boundary surface is always transparent, only edges are visible, I am not able to view boundary surface.
So when handling multiple surfaces I face problems.
though I am indirectly handling this problem using layers, still i wanted to find if there is any direct solution
I am using V9.31
Any suggestions pls.

Once you have created your boundary surface, try using Geometry > Surface > Convert.

Dear Sarnath,
Please note that Boundary Surfaces command is most often used to define planar areas for meshing that have more than four sides, and which are easier to define as curves than as faces of solids. Then be aware of this, a Boundary Surface is like a planar region, if this is correct then the method of creating surfaces is correct as well. NEXT, you will need to use GEOMETRY > SURFACE > CONVERT. This command converts a surface generated with the standard FEMAP geometry engine to a Parasolid surface. Generally, you will use Convert to update FEMAP legacy geometry so that you can use it with a newer version of FEMAP.

The NEXT step is to use command "Geometry > Solid > Stitch" to create a solid from a series of surfaces. The only inputs required for this command are the surfaces themselves, a stitching tolerance, and whether “mergeable curves” should be cleaned up. The tolerance can be adjusted to facil­itate the closing of gaps between surface edges. This is a very useful command when reading trimmed surfaces from an IGES file. You can read an IGES file, and then use this command to generate a Parasolid solid from the IGES surfaces. You can then manipulate this solid just like any other solid you would have created in FEMAP.

Or alternatively you can use "Geometry Surface > Non>Manifold Add" to create “Non-Manifold Solid Geometry”, an option in the Parasolid modeling kernel which creates “General Bodies” as opposed to regular solids (FEMAP solids) and sheet solids (FEMAP surfaces). The command allows you to Boolean Add sheet solids to one another, as well as add “sheet solids” to Parasolid “solids”. The “Non-Manifold Add Tolerance” may be adjusted in an attempt to have more solids and sheet solids combined into as few “general bodies” as possible.

The use of Non-Manifold Geometry can be very useful in creation of mid-surface models with “T-Junctions”, mod­els where shell elements (2-D) and solid elements (3-D) need to be connected and portions of the shell mesh are embedded into the solid mesh, and “solids” with internal “surfaces” used in certain types of analysis.
