as per NFPA 13, the calculation must be performed for each system (Standpipe, sprinkler and etc) and not in combination of two systems. In case you are calculating sprinkler system in hydraulic calculation, you don't need to consider the standpipe connection as a standpipe demand but only a hose allowance.

GeorgeMech,

Thankful for your response

George,

That's not always the case. For a building with a LH or OH-1 or OH-2 discharge density combined with a Class I standpipe, the standpipe can be more hydraulically demanding. I currently have a sprinklered 27 high rise on my desk with 3 standpipes. The 1,000 GPM @ 100 PSIG at the highest floor is far more demanding than any on the OH-1 or LH discharge densities.

Stookeyfpe,

Yes it is true and most of the cases standpipe system is more demanding compared with sprinkler system, my statement is only to clarify the question of zicooo regarding on combining the standpipe system and sprinkler system in calculation, although, NFPA also states that if the building is partially sprinklered, you must combined the two system in order to get the system demand.
