Question regarding constraints for advanced simulation

I am trying to do a simple crash test simulation (I am constraining the Z axis of the vehicle and applying a force to the 'front bumper') in UGS 7.5.

Whenever I run the simulation the front bumper doesn't interact with the rest of the vehicle, it just goes through. I think I need to constrain the bumper to the frame. I tried to use a 'automatic couple' and 'manual couple constraint' and then solve the simulation, but then I can't view any of the images from the simulation because an error message comes up that says

"Error recovery completed for the following error: Internal error: memory access violation".

If I then delete the constraint and solve it again, the error goes away, so its a problem with the constraint I guess.

Am I going about this the wrong way? is this the correct constraint to be using, and if so how do you properly use it?

I have attached an image of the simulation before I tried using the couple constraint.
