First I´m going to present myself. I´m a spanish mechanical engineering and I´m starting with this computer software.

In this moment I have two questions:

1) If you see steel design manual of SAP2000 (chapter number VIII-check/design for EUROCODE 3)in calculation of section resistances: compression resistance you have to kno l wich is deffined as buckling length. In my model I have a beam in a truss of 6m length, but purlins are distanced 1,5 m. How can I modify this parameter in the SAP2000 model?

2) In this case I know the buckling lengh. But it's possible (for example in one story rigid frames) that I don't know this, and I have to estimate it. How can I do this?

Thank you very much: jJ

I am not familiar with Eurocode 3, but assigning design parameters/overwrites for this design code in SAP2000 appears to be the same procedure as with any other design code: Select your design code, then select frame elements by clicking them, select menu options or whatever method you use to select, then go to the Design menu>Steel frame design (or concrete design if concrete)>View/revise overwrites. There you can assign unbraced lengths, K factors and other design parameters to the selected frames.

Dear Stressed:

Thank you for your answer. It´s very good to me. I have now other question: Could I see in the graphical window, for each beam, all these parameters: k factors, buckling lenght, etc?

Thank you very much: jJ

Using the Design menu, you can graphically display design input like unbraced lenghts, K factors, etc. You can also review these design parameters after running a design by right-clicking individual frames, or use the Display menu to print/display tables for your design
