Questions regarding table 1A ASME Sec II part D

I have 4 questions regarding table 1A ASME Sec II part D:

1) What is the meaning of the characters positioned in the sides of the table (A02, A03, 01 etc)?
2) Why is for some materials at certain temperature the allowable stress is not stated and only "..." appears on the table? see allowable stress for SA 210 C at temperature 250 & 150 F for an example.
3) How is the process for getting the maximum allowable stress values in the table? (what formula / plot / graphic did they use?)
4) How to use the table? it says in the "GENERAL NOTES:" of table 1A : "The stress values in this Table may be interpolated to determine values for intermediate temperatures." does that mean that to determine the exact maximum allowable stress, it is better to interpolate the data in the table for intermediate temperatures?

Lets answer these one at a time. I think I got the meaning of your questions:
1) If you look at the end of table 1A, after all the materials, there is a notes section that explains all the meanings of the notes code designations.
2) I do not know why they have the ..., but you are allowed to interpolate stress values and intermediate temperatures. You are NOT allowed to extrapolate stress values to temperatures that are higher than the maximum allowable temperature.
3) You find the right material, and take the stress value at the design temperature you are using.

1) For notes a the end of table 1A is for codes in the notes column of the table. I didn't find any explanation for what is A03, A02 and 01.

3) i mean how did the guys at asme determines the allowable stress value in the table? based on formula or graphics perhaps?

(3) see Section II Part D "Mandatory Appendix 1 - Basis for Establishing Stress Values in Tables 1A and 1B.

Note that this is the method that the Code committee used to determine the tabulated allowable stress values. It doesn't mean that you can use this method to calculate the allowable stress. The allowable stresses are to come from the Tables.

(1) The ASME Code is now published every other year (biennial). But for many years, up until about 3 years ago the Code was published with a new Edition every 3 years, and the intervening years had an "Addenda" published. The markings you refer to, A03, A02, etc, refer to changes made to that line (or paragraph) in the Code for that particular Addenda (Addenda A03, etc).

It's apparent that you must be looking at older Code books where you see such references to the Addenda.
