Hi everybody. I thought maybe the good people here could help me out. I'd like to mount a toolbox (or army surplus ammo can) to my bicycle rack, and I'd like it to be a quick connect type of mount for easy removal. I'd also like it to be semi-secure, so that someone can't easily remove it if the box is locked - I want the quick connect inside the box. The simplest thing I can think of is a couple of u-bolts through the bottom of the box, secured with wingnuts. But I'm wondering if the mechanical types here could suggest something more elegant, so I can wow my friends and impress the ladies. So how about it? How would you mount the box?

i'd be worried about the ladies you could impress with how your ammo box is mounted ... so long as we're not talking in metaphors ...

Thanks for the comments guys. I'm thinking of going with a spring loaded draw latch, so it operates in tension and reduces the rattle factor. And rb1957, I'm partial to the old Jerry Jeff Walker song "Trashy Women." Just don't tell my girlfriend I said so.

Grainger might also be helpful. Also - check out CARR-Lane - they make all kinds of weird clamps and such...

Camloc recepticals on the rack itself. These will be flush to the racks surface.

1/4 turn camloc studs, captive in floor of tool box. many "chick magnet" styles available.

I would use at least three.

Very robust stuff, we use 'em to hold stuff on airplanes, so they'd be fine on your two-wheeler.

Just the other day a gaggle of hot women had to be removed from the taxiway by TSA personnel; they were mindlessly following a departing aircraft.

Now you're talking. That is some sexy stuff. Now I'll have to figure out how to mount the stick I'll need to fend off the hordes of admiring females. Thanks for your help - that looks like the way to go.

I'd be afraid of meeting the type of gal that would be impressed with an army surplus ammo can attached to a bike rack. Now as to your friends, I'm probably the type that would think that something like that was way cool.

Thanks guys - I used four Southco 1/4 turn fasteners from McMaster Carr. I'm rolling in style now.
