I've searched the internet for a long time and can't find an answer:

I am wondering if I should include a portion of live load in calculating component seismic forces on an egress stair (ASCE 7-05). I know seismic forces don't usually include live load, but ASCE doesn't define "component operating weight".

Stair loading is specific...only the live load required. Nothing else.

...I should have noted that the dead load is considered also!!

In section 12.7.2, there are only four circumstances where additional lateral load has to be included.

The situation of live load on a stair system is not one of them. Only the dead load needs to be considered here.

For the record, "component operating weight" has to do with the actual weight of any machinery.
