I'm working on a NX 7.5 drawing that I inherited from someone else and I'm running into an issue that I can't figure out. There are a couple of symbols that have notes attached or embedded to them that I can't recreate or copy. It seems like they consist of a square identification symbol rotated 45 degrees to form a diamond and then a note that is somehow positioned and anchored to the center of the symbol. I can move the symbol and the note moves with it.

I know the note is not associatively aligned because I cannot select and move the note independent of the symbol but I can select the note, edit it, or delete it without changing the symbol. I'm also pretty sure that it's not a custom symbol.

Is there some other tool or method to attach a note to a symbol other than using stacking or alignment?

Well, first do:
Info (pull down menu) -> Object -> Click on the Object -> Ok
and then post what it says the object is
