"Rectangular Instance feature" associative orientation

Hello All,
I recently updated to NX5 and I 'm so surprised to see that NX5 still does not have associative orientation control for XC & YC direction in the rectangular instance feature.
It wouldn't be too much to ask for the instances to follow the orientation of a lead-feature would it.

Especially since it's been on lots of UG-wishlists for ages.

Or am I missing something.

Regards,
Ronny

Try using pattern face more often.

Hello Hudson,

Thanx for your Re:

I am aware of the alternatives ( Pattern Face and Instance geometry) and they all have their merits but in my modest opinion , using it as a workaround for "instance feature" doesn't always work for me.

For example ( and these are quite simple examples)
-a pattern of hole features with " pattern face" won't update if you change the leading hole from simple to counterbore,
nor will a blend all instances work, etc , etc,...

Using the alternative only disguises the fact that instance feature isn't up to scratch.
It' s one of the few thing where associativity isn't implemented completely and I don't see way it shouldn't be possible.

Don't you agree?

We are aware of this issue and it is being addressed as part of a larger, more comprehensive project designed to consolidate and improve the 'patterning' capability of NX, be it features, objects, components, etc. Note that this will be a multi-release project, with the first deliverable based on the new architecture being the ability to create an 'array' of curves inside a Sketch. This initial functionality will be included in NX 7.5 with the other types of 'patterning' tasks being addressed in subsequent releases.

Ronny,

I think your main beef with it should simply be that the associative component instance arrays don't work.

As John has commented and/or mentioned elsewhere all of that may be hopefully addressed in NX-7.5 and beyond.

@ Hudson : Indeed the ISET array is another issue but one that doens't affect me much in the work I do

@ John: Good to hear the issue is being worked on, although I fear it will be some time before I get to enjoy the enhancements since we follow the GM NX version.
The "array of curves inside a sketch" would also be a great enhancement in my opinion. I do a lot of perforated pipes and plates , it would be great for that I guess.

Best Regards
