I am designing a 3-storey classroom block. The concrete frames consists of 8 metre long single span beams at all floor levels and roof level supported on 2 circular columns (600 mm diameter). These frames are to be spaced at 11 metre centre. There will be no shear walls provided. Slabs will be provided at every floor level except roof of course.

I have no experience in designing frames of such. Is this possible ? What important factors should be considered ?

Sorry, this is not what you want to hear.

If you do not have experience in design of this type of frames and do not have anyone in your office to teach you, may be you should find consultant to do this job.

It is ipossible here to spell all requirements of Building Code (loads, concrete, etc).

In California it requires 13 hours Civil Engineering Test plus 16 hours Structural Engineering Test to be in charge of school and hospital structural design. Kids and sick people can not protect themselves and require additional care.

Sorry.

I suggest that whymrg is being too diplomatic, with "maybe" you should find a consultant.

If you do not have any experience of this type of work, and are unable to do it UNDER VERY CLOSE SUPERVISION by some one who has, then you should not be even thinking of doing it.
