Radius Pin Size For Di-Acro Bender

Hello,

I have a No. 8 Di-Acro bender.

We bend U-bolts on this machine, we want to develop a list for our operators to use that tells them what raidus pin to use depending on what inside measurement the U-bolt needs.

For example, if the distance between the legs needs to be 1", should a 15/16" pin be used? Or a 7/8" pin? or even a 1" pin?

Also I am aware that things such as diameter of bar and its material might affect pin selection.

Does anyone know of any reference texts or machinists handbooks that have addressed this?

I have gotten in touch with Di-Acro and am awaiting a reply, but in the meantime I thought it might be helpful to ask you smart folks and see what input I might get.

Any help appreciated in this regard.

Thanks,
Ron

The main thing that will drive your selection is the amount of spring back in the material you are bending.
With less spring back your radius pin can be closer to the desired size. With more spring back, your pin will have to be correspondingly smaller.
Most often this is found by trial and error.
