I have a 9'-6" long radius glulam beam (radius = 5') with a 2200# point load at center. I currently have it called out as an 8 3/4" x 10 1/2" radius glulam. The lumberyard is proposing to cut this beam out of a 10x20 with a joint at the center and a 1/4" x 9 1/4" flitch plate with 3/4" diameter bolts. Can this be a structural member since the fibers in the 10x20 won't be continuous?

Please sketch the (original) uncut beam geometry.
And the final (as-proposed) beam geometry. Your description is not clear to me.

I misspoke, it would have to be done in 3 sections. Here is a sketch.

No, terrible idea. Glulam as originally proposed is the practical solution.

the idea of having bending stresses come in at angles to the grain does not sit well.

I should also clarify that this is a bottom chord of a truss. Although it is ridge beam to king post condition.

Just when I thought I understood the question.
