Hi, I am building a canopy over what used to be just a dirt area. The canopy is next to an existing road that drains to the city drains. Is there an issue if the canopy's gutters direct to the street? I look up the city municipal codes but couldn't fine anything.

Regards,

I think your city's zoning enforcement would be a good place to ask. Maybe public works. Is it shown on the plans you're using to get a permit?

It's hard to say without knowing where the project is and how big it is. Many jurisdictions will want you to retain the runoff that used to soak in and infiltrate it into the ground, or at least increase the time of concentration to reduce the load on the storm sewers.

My glass has a v/c ratio of 0.5

Maybe the tyranny of Murphy is the penalty for hubris. -

I recently did something similar where i directed the canopy runoff to a tank with an orifice outlet that slowly drains to the street system.
but as mentioned it depends on the council and their requirements, I only had to detain the 10 year runoff, other councils require the 100yr

If there is no change to the soil below it, I don't see how the canopy would change anything. But things to consider:

1) Is this canopy placed at a high point or a "raised ground area"? If so, no "upstream" water will infiltrate into that ground.
2) Is the flow sufficient that if traveling water goes into the covered area, it will sufficiently infiltrate into that ground?
3) Will the canopy be big enough that it will affect vegetation? If so, the "C" or "CN" will need to change accordingly.
