Range value doesn't display

I have used MathCAD in the past and for the first time in a long time I fired it up and had the following problem.

Entered:

j := 0;10

and then

j=

But the j range did not display...what I got instead is what is in quotes:

"j="

Nothing else...what I expected was a display of the values of j.

What gives?

Is Calculation set to Automatic? If not you will get j= and then a placemarker until you press F9.

I checked that already...calculation is on and I see clues that calculation is carried on. Matrix display OK, and so do variable values, but there are several cases that I get this behavior where I would expect some result.

This is Mathcad 13.1

strictly speaking, it is actually

j:0;10 <Enter>

The default increment is 1 if the second term of the series is not entered.

But that has nothing to do with the behavior I am seeing. If nobody knows exactly the cause of this, I will try re-installing. I had to do something like that once before just to be able to run the program at all.

Well I figured out a little, but there seems to be a bug. Range variables are supposed to display as output tables but do not. Here is what MathCAD Help says:

"Long vectors and range variables both display using output tables. However, range variables have the row and column labels turned off by default, while vectors have the row and column labels turned on by default."

However I can get range variables to display as a Matrix by the following menu pick:

Format>>Result...>>Display Options>>Matrix Display Style>>Matrix

However, if I do either of the following menu picks, range variables do NOT display:

Format>>Result...>>Display Options>>Matrix Display Style>>Automatic
Format>>Result...>>Display Options>>Matrix Display Style>>Table

I think you need to reinstall. Ranges should always display something

Unfortunately I looked into that and found it problematic.

I can get by without the table stuff now that I can display matrix, and in order to install, I have to go back to the original disk, apply an update patch, and install a significant number of add ons...more trouble than it is worth with my present schedule.

I'd like to point out that I have seen this problem before the last time I re-installed, and now I have seen the whole behavior have vague recollections of it popping up on more than one occasion in other more recent versions of MathCAD.

If I EVER get the chance, I think I will check a clean install and then see if the problem pops up again after I put in the add-ons.

A remote possibility is that there's a conflict with graphics acceleration. Mathcad seems to be particularly vulnerable to this problem. Try turning off all graphics acceleration and see if there's an impact.
