Hi there, I am trying to Heat Treat a Nickel based super alloy but the damn thing keeps cracking. We produce our parts using a DMLS (direct metal laser sintering) machine on top of a 36mm tool steel plate. We have to stress relieve the parts before they can be cut off the base plate, as such there is a massive heat sink attached to the parts (see pic), the whole part weighs in at 4.5kg. We think the problem of cracking is occuring on the way up, a detrimental phase is precipitating out between 800-900oC.
Does anyone know of a Heat treater that can ramp they furnaces up at speeds greater than 31oc/min to 1180oC?
Also I've seen that Fulidized bed Heat treatments could be a way forward, anyone know of one in the UK that will go upto 1180?
Cheers for your help
