I'm trying to get a better understanding of the wall shear near the bottom edge of an RC basement wall supported on piers. It seems intuitive that an ordinary shear plane would exist along the bottom edge when the piers are very close together. But does the shear eventually become punching shear as the pier spacing increases? Can anyone tell me how to estimate the pier spacing at the transition between these two types of shear? Thanks.

you need to provide a pier layout plan with the outline of the wall. Or, I remember CRSI design handbook has very good examples on this.
