Re use pipe materials from new pre manufactured spool.

Hi all,

Normally We pre manufactured all our rubber lined spools with a supplier, but now is necessary the modification of one in field. Here we have all the tools and good personal to work in that.
In this special case, I am requiring to trim a 1 meter nipple from one spool and this same nipple wil be installed into other. My question is there is a code or standard about the re use of material in this case, where I am reusing a 1meter nipple from practically a new spool to modify another.

Sorry, but it is hard to understand your post. Do you have a sketch? Are you referencing a pipe lining procedure?

Use the same Code which used to make the steel spool for the modification you try to make, for example ASME B31.3. And, to redo the rubber lining per the manufacturer procedure.

When is a "nipple" not just a piece of pipe??

At 1 metre long I think you're just talking about a piece of pipe.

Re-use is rather vague - do you mean welded, screwed, flanged, jointed - what??

Re-use of material is normally frowned upon as the original material certs are long gone, but if this is new and you can prove what the material is the better.

Re-welding on top of previous HAZ is an different story and can cause issues with cracking and brittleness.

so as long as your new material matches the requirement of the modified location then all should be good, but there's very little here to go on.

Re-use (salvaging or cutting off a length of a prefabricated spool, then using it in another spool) is very common. Assuming per Little Inch above that you can satisfy the pipe material spec's and joint specifications and welding QA.

BUT! That assumed conventional pipe connected with threaded joints, welding, soldering or brazing.
You've got a plastic lined pipe - How are you going to recoat the INTERIOR of the pipe satisfactory at the new joint, and after the welding or re-threading to the original design specifications and use?

Dear jor1492,

Basically you want to rubber line a CS nipple at field. You can go ahead but use self curing neoprene instead of natural rubber.

At shop, the manufacturer can cure all the spools in a furnace, which you do not have at field.

Thanks by all the answers, At the end, We discovered that the lined is actually polyurethane and this material is unavailable locally.
