Reading expressions from internal spreadsheet

I would like some information on how to fill in an expression's formula cell by reading from the internal spreadsheet. What I am trying to do is build the internal spreadsheet to look like a sheet we are given at work that includes all of the info you need to build a model. The problem is knowing which numbers go to which expressions, so if I could build the internal spreadsheet to look just like the sheet we are given, then users could just fill in the internal spreadsheet to match what they see on the sheet given to them, formatted the same way. I would like to do this without using an external spreadsheet.

I can find a lot of info on how to do this from an external spreadsheet but nothing on how to do it just using Tools -> Spreadsheet.
