There are tons of ASTM standards dealing with radiography. For example, ASTM E390 Volumes 1, 2, and 3 contain reference radiographs for various thicknesses of steel fusion welds. Also check out E94-00 Standard Guide for Radiographic Examination.

My suggestion would be to go to the ASTM website at:

Do a search for "radiograph" (or look through the "E" series standards) and find the standards that you are interested in.

Hope this helps.

For what you're asking (reading & comprehending radiographic reports), I'd suggest taking a look at ASME Sec.V Seldom
"There's no such thing as a welding problem, just welding puzzles of assorted sizes!"

AWS, ASNT, and others all have good information on the theory of radiography. What I believe we're after here is the fact that the radiography has been done and liby would like to know what all those little marks on the reader sheet mean.

liby, contact the company that provided the radiography and have them send a technician or their Level III to your site to go over the report with and explain what information is on the reader sheet. Or contact me by email and I will do my best to explain it for you. Most NDE companies will use abbreviations or a code for defects that may not be easy to figure out. The published references mentioned above will only describe the required information for the technique of the exposure instead of how the interpretation was performed.

I hope that is what you're looking for. Richard Schram
