Real usage of Upgrade function 1

I am curious what is real benefit of upgrade function and if it is used for what purpose?

Thanks , I tried but there was plenty of threads so I lost myself and couldn't find it so I was thinking that nobody posted this.

bringing v5 file in 3DExperience I am using this function to get a better visual in sketch as my projected or intersection curve could look better...
