Hello all,
I need to receive the ceiling drawings (.dwg) from one of the casino's here in Las Vegas & I keep getting .dat files.
What is a .dat file & why am I getting this? The engineer @ the casino has sent these attachments to me 4 times! He SWEARS that he is sending me .dwg's....
Please help....
THANKS
TYSON

Could it be that his email system is renaming the extension "somwhow"?

Have you tried to rename the DAT to DWG and see if it opens?

Just a thought ...

Hi,

I have been experiencing the same problem myself, when i send files the recipient recieves them as .dat - i'm not sure what the problem is, but, it has something to do with the sender's email settings. Sending the drg's in a zip file won't work either - they will be received as winmail.

The only work around i could find was to get someone else to mail the drawings!

Hope this helps.

You may want to try using the etransmit command. This bundles the drawings into a self extracting exe file.

You may talk to your sys admin. You can set the email system to block dwg files since dwg's can contain embedded macros, and your email server may block them by default.
