Receptacle spacing in industrial area

For an industrial facility, which has all equipment hard-wired, what is the required spacing of convienience outlets? These will be placed around the perimeter of the building for temporary maintenance loads such as tools, shop vacs, portable lighting, etc. The 12' spacing for residential and habitable areas seems like overkill. I have yet to find a clear explanation of this in the NEC.

It seems they arent necessarily required at all in this case, and could be spaced as you please.

You are right there are no Code spacing requirements for convenience receptacles in industrial facilities. A 'good' design will consider length of cords of temporary equipment such as vaccum cleaners. The 'norm' not more than 30 feet between receptacles so a 15' cord can be easily cover the area for maintenance. Also locate outlets such that crossing path of egresses by the cords can be avoided.

If there are roof top AC units, you need receptacels for them per Code.
