Hi,

I am doing a case study and wonder whether my thought is valid or not.

background:
- Recip Compressor valve damaged, because of fouling due to uncleaned piping.
- It was working well but later it hits discharge pressure alarm.
- gas composition changes thus mole weight varies.
- worry about discharge temp increases and hit the trip. (since Tem d is realted to P d)

Something allowed discharge pressure to hit alarm(high) limit, so my approach was to lower the discharge pressure.
< >
"The pressure is NOT built up by the compressor. The pressure is a characteristic result of the SYSTEM's resistance to flow."
which gives me insight of using a relief valve at suction side.
or
using recycle loop to introduce some gas to go back to suction side from discharge side
(I did not choose to do speed control as it has minimal impact.
<Q: is my approach valid??>

For this case,
1. I think mole wight has no impact as reciprocating has no limit with regards to molecular weight.
2. I suspected high compression ratio would be the reason but as both suction and discharge pressure are increased similarly, there is no impact.
3. But change in gas composition during the operation would affect the compression ratio.
<Q: is my causes make sense??>

If you can share your idea, I am more than welcome!

Thank you in advanced,
