Hello experts,

I need to know among the most known grounding modeling software(ETAP, CYMGRD, SKM, SAFEGRID, XGSLAB, WINIGS) which one provides "transient" behavior analysis and also the capability to choose material or define new ones(custom alloy for example). I reached out to these software providers but no answer, I need this information to select the most suitable software to buy. Thank you in advance.

CDEGS by SES is considered by many or most to be the market-leader.

When you mention 'transient' there are several types of studies that use different tools like PSCAD, EMTP, EMTAP, etc. instead of grounding. What is project are your doing and for who?

Different regions have preference in software so if you are in Germany or Italy you'll see more XGSLab. In Canada/USA more CDEGS, until you get to the southeast USA then its more WinIGS.

CDEGS and XGSLab have more flexible time domain analysis tools, and you can adjust the frequency for their frequency domain tools (CDEGS-HIFREQ; XGSLAB-GSA_FD;XGSA_FD).

This webinar goes through a transient analysis for a PV site evaluating the SPD in the time domain analysis to confirm it can withstand the lightning effects
