Recommendation for Infrared Transmitting resin

Gentleman hello,

I would like your help to define an Infrared Transmitting resin for a part i am designing, the part is a cover (see attached picture) for an IR transmitter, the cover snaps into a designated opening in some other part.

Manufacturing method: Injection molding.
Material properties: Infrared Transmitting resin for 850NM wave length, not very rigid for snap features to work well.
Color: Black.

If you are requesting help in a material choice then PMMA is about the best. It will need a black, IR transparent dye colourant added.
It's quite stiff with a low elongation before break so you will have to do the sums for your snap fit cantilevers.

Any recommendation for material manufacturer? Sabic / Chimei / Bayer....? What series?

Google should be helpful. Many makers of acrylic (PMMA). It's all much of a muchness - they all make the same basic grades - some do toughened, opal, etc. in an effort to differentiate products. Best to specify "Clear Acrylic" with whatever dye your moulder chooses. Some material makers may do a standard IR transparent black, but probably a tonne+ min order.
