Recommendations for Velocity Vector and Spin Vector Sensors

Greetings.

I am a student of mechanical engineering developing smart balls using a different concept. I have equations to plot the trajectory of a ball moving in air. The equations have 2 variables that need to be measured, Velocity Vector and Spin Vector. These sensors need to be placed inside the ball.

Can you recommend sensors that i can use for the project. It would be really appreciated if you could provide a little detail.

Hello. What do you mean by "different concept", using velocity instead of acceleration?

Likely you would want to use an IMU, which is just accelerometers + gyros.

You'd have to integrate the data to get velocity and this would accumulate error in the readings.

Having an idea of the magnitude of accelerations you expect to see and the required accuracy of the measurements should give you a starting point for your search.
 
This is what inertial sensors are for; however, under constant velocity, accelerometers would not do anything and there is no internal means for measuring vectors under those conditions.

A 6-DOF MEMS gyro would work well here... though for high rates of spin you may not have a fast enough data rate to make useful trajectory estimates.

Can 6-DOF MEMS gyro tell us both velocity and spin vectors?

Also experiments show that in a flight path of a spinning ball of average distance upto 80% of spin is retained. Hence taking only the largest value of spin would and considering it constant would provide sufficient accuracy.

Also can you suggest any learning material on MEMS as i am new at this, and any website to find their data sheets.

Find electronics vendors via google. Search on electronics vendor sites for 6-axis gyro and/or accelerometers...iterate.
