Hi, how long after fabrication and installation of a facility do we retain
1. X ray films
2. Actual examination and inspection records
Note: 95% of which are ASME B31.3
Thank you

Per 346.3, at least 5 years after the record is generated for the project for the following:
(a) examination procedures
(b) examination personnel qualifications.

There is no defined time limit in B31.3 for maintaining film and other NDE or Leak Test records. Certain pipe systems are further governed by Jurisdictions, which may require maintaining them for the life of the project.

You should check with your Legal department and Insurer regarding records maintenance.

Thanks Stanweld!
So since there's not record for films, etc does that mean we stipulate ours. Many folks have told me that as long as the formal reports by the eximiner and the inspector is kept for 5 years or more, that the films can be tossed after one year.

Does the jurisdiction governance you're talking about over shadow the above thought? or does it cover the film retention aspect?

I would imagine that the jurisdiction would vary in each state...

Thank you.

The best place to get an answer to this question is the legal department of your company.
