Nice job. My soils prof and later an employer, B.K. Hough,had been one of his students at Harvard and MIT. He never commented much about his experiences as a student, but spared no criticisms about other classmates in Terzaghi's classes. I won't name them, but they included two of those who wrote text books on the subject and were well known in the US. Hough gave me a textbook written by Terzaghi (in German). I passed it on to a younger engineer that once worked for me, so it was saved.
OG....presumably you are referring to two disciples of both Terzaghi and Cassagrande who were likely Hough's classmates at Harvard, having the initials GFS and HBS (correct me if I'm wrong!). I worked at the same company as GFS for about 18 years. I was not a geotechnical engineer but shared his interest in the forensic side of the business and discussed it with him on several occasions. He seemed to me to be somewhat more of a Cassagrande follower than a Terzaghi follower, though it's hard to distinguish which he revered more. I used his text in college before I went to work for the company. He was colorful and very outspoken. In any case the three of them, Hough...GFS....and HBS were giants in the geotechnical profession and perpetuated the many premises of both Terzaghi and Cassagrande, teaching such to us "younger ones" to carry on.
OG again. One for sure was RBP, but my memory can't be sure of others. Not sure of their class situation. One engineer that may not have been an old college acquaintance that Hough had a strong relationship with was (and maybe still is) J.Osterberg. He helped Hough out a few times with legal cases. I was fortunate to be involved also. After one long day on the stand during arbitration, Osterberg remarked to me "I could have kissed you for how you did that". He always drove Volvos being from Sweden apparently.
I met Osterberg years ago in Vancouver and then again in 1985 at the San Francisco ISSMFE Conference. My mentor, Fred Matich, studied under Terzaghi. Fred, in Canada, is still practicing, a few weeks shy of 90. Mainly geotechnical review boards.
Being of 100% Swede parents I took an interest in a conversation between Osterberg and a famous Canadian (remind me?) standing in noon lunch line at Northwestern U. for an ASCE soil engineering conference. They were talking about the constant wars the Swedes carried on in the early teens 1000 - 1500 going as far east as Moscow.
