Hi all,
I have to substantiate a thin dome which contains a perforated grid in the middle of the dome. The grid has a rectangular contour and covers around 50% of the dome area.
The dome and the grid are loaded with a static pressure.
I would like to have some advice about the stress field in the grid:
- do you think the grid will be subjected to membrane stresses only (the rectangular grid is "projected" on the dome shape)?
- or do you think that bending stresses can occur in the transition area grid/rest of the dome, because the perforated grid is more flexible that the periphery?
