Hi,

In ASME you won't find those kind of formulas for non circular pressure vessel.
The methodology for such cases is outlined in Appendix 13, employing an iterative approach. In this method, you initially assume a thickness and then calculate the stresses accordingly.

If non circular means rectangular ,

- Pls look Prseesure Vessel handbook ( By Eugene F. MEGYESY ),

- You may look to the tables of Roark’s Formulas for Stress and Strain,

- FEM analysis if you have a software suitable .

Use it up, wear it out;
Make it do, or do without.

could you please let me know what sections of Pressure vessel handbook and roarks formulas

i will penform FEM as well.

thanks

- Pls look Pressure Vessel handbook ( By Eugene F. MEGYESY ),Part 11 , Page 213 , Rectangular Tanks Under Hydrostatic Pressure
- Roark’s formulas for stress and strain (2012, Warren C. Young, Richard G. Budynas, Ali M. Sadegh - MGH) Chapter 11
Flat plates
- If you provide more detail , you may get better responds as you wish.

Make it do, or do without.

When you read Roark's, make sure to read the section on large deflections (section 11.11 "Effect of Large Deflection; Diaphragm Stresses" in the 7th edition) to check if it applies to your case. Similar advice goes for FEM; read up on relevant element types/solver settings to see if you need to make any changes to account for large deflections. Flat plates don't take much to deflect, so you'll want to be cognizant of this effect.
