Hi All,

In normal industrial practise, we will use Roark's Formulas to design a rectangular tank. However, I tried to use Staadpro to run the rectangular tank design, but the results show what I have calculated in the manual calculation from Roark's Formulas failed.

Could anyone good at Staadpro help me to check this out?

Tank Size : 3300mm (H) x 2500 mm (W) x 6950 mm (L)
Plate Thk : 12 mm
Material : SS316L (21000 Psi)
Design Pressure : 88 kPag
Stiffener Ring : 50mm (W) x 12 mm (t)

Number of Ring Required :
Height : 4
Length : 9
Width : 3

Thanks in advance!

Why is there hydrostatic pressure on only one side of the tank?

An additional resource for tank design is "Design of Weldments" by Omer Blodgett - see section 4.6 for design of tanks with, and without, stiffeners.
