I want to use recycled concrete aggregrate as a base under under hot mix asphalt for a small road project

I am using NYSDOT Standard Specifications (2006 ed) for all the items.

But I dont see this item in the spec book. I am guessing it is one of the subbase courses, but they are identified differently.

If anybody with NYSDOT knowledge knows, that would be great.

The supplier needs to send you documentation for the RCA to demonstrate that it complies with NYS DOT.

Check specification section 304-2.02 for the material requirements; page 206. The item numbers for the various types are on page 209 of the specifications. The types are taken from Table 304-1.

Thanks, I see it now, This is for a very small village road and parking lot project in Nassau County, Long Island. I am thinking of calling for Item 304.15 Subbase Course Optional Type - 12 inches thick.

Optional type, so I don't get complaints from the GC about availability or customary use, and 12" thick, Is that too thick? It's a primary road in this Village

If you know the type most often called for in Region 10 or 11, I'll change it.

recommend you get a geotechnical engineer to review the site and recommend the pavement section thickness, based on estimated traffic

Regions 10 & 11 have a common special spec for subbase - 304.10119917 but it's not RCA. The Route 9A project in Region 11 is using Item 304.11.

I agree with cvg on the pavement selection; check with a geotech. 12" sounds OK but pavement isn't my area.

FYI - on the Wantagh State Parkway (for a project that's starting next year) is using the following roadway section:
1.5" Asphalt top (item 402.098101)
2.5" asphalt binder (402.198901)
4" asphalt base (402.378901)
6" subbase (304.10119917)

A few years ago, we did a job that included a bus parking lot in Region 11. The section was:
40mm asphalt top course
50 mm asphalt binder
230 mm cement concrete pavement
300 mm subbase (304.10119917)

The current Route 9A project is using 12" subbase for the various pavements 3" asphalt on 9" concrete and 11" concrete on 4" permeable base.
