I need a document which supports the steel I use are recycled (for LEED). I read somewhere the A992 is more than 95% recycled. Does any body know where I can find the recycled content of A992 or any steel ?

It depends on the fabricator. For LEED, request documentation directly from the steel producer. Otherwise, LEED requires you to assume only 25% recycled content of steel, which is a major penalty because you're right, most steel is near 100% recycled content.

Depends on the mill, not the fabricator, not the specification. Many of the mills work almost 100% from scrap. Get the mill test certificates for the steel you're using, contact the mills.

Different mills haave different numbers. I will put a wording on my spec that the steel to meet the LEED version 2.2 Credit 4.1 and 4.2. for recycled content. What do you guys think ?

The steel alone cannot meet the LEED requirements. The requirement is based on an overall use of recycled material on the project. Usually steel needs to be higher than the LEED requirements in order to meet the overall goal and make up for materials with no recycled content.

I have usually seen this specified as a requirement for the contractor to meet the overall LEED requirement, but not specifically telling him what everything has to be.

Maybe we could manipulate what we mean by recycled? The iron ore has certainly been recycled, cosmically speaking (smile). Put your lawyer hat on and be creative.
