Hi, is there anyway to reference excel in the drawing templates for NX4. The ideal scenario would have an excel spreadsheet where data is entered into an then that is automatically put into the drawing template in specific predetermined locations.

To give some background, the reason I ask is that we create Engineering Release Notices (ERN) and that data is the same information that is put into the drawing. it would be nice to have this info automatically entered into the drawing when the ERN is created to save time and any typing errors.

Thanks!

You can insert your revisions block on the drawing as a table; I would do that anyway. Then you can edit a table using excel. You can then paste values from another spreadsheet.

Once you populate a table from a spreadsheet it opens excel to edit the contents. Perhaps if you create such a table and add it to a tables pallet or into a drawing template then you'll automate the bulk of the task.

The values that appear in the table are embedded with the NX part file, as far as keeping the two in sync without cutting and pasting you would probably need to set up some programming to make that happen. My advice if you want to take it that far is to search this forum for previous threads on similar topics as I have seen similar queries in the past.

Best Regards

fgbrender wrote up an excellent tutorial about using tabular notes with excel a while back. Take a look at thread561-159587. It looks like his powerpoint file is still available for download.
