Hi guys.

I have some deep cycle batteries that have been through their cycles and don't store much power anymore. Some even have dead cells.

Has anyone managed to refurbish deep cycle batteries themselves?

Is this possible? If so, anyone willing to offer some guidance on doing this?

Its quite expensive to replace them for the backup power system so I thought if I could refurbish them. I could use them for a few more years

I think that you'll find that trying to do a one-off refurb isn't going to be much cheaper, due to the lack of economy of scale, assuming you have to replace the plates. If the plates are salvageable, you'll at least have to disassemble and resurface them, since the shorts are usually bridges of lead between opposite electrodes. Any seriously damaged plates would have to be replaced with similar thickness and dimensions

Then you'd need to replace the sulfuric acid with the correct concentration.
