Dear sir,

I have 50mm thick plate, I want to make a double v bevel joint.

What will be the ratio of that joint.

That is, what will be the upper side ratio and lower side ratio.

Dear all experts,

I come to know from one of the source/search, ratio would be 2/3 and 1/3 of thickness with 75 degree angle.
Root face will be 1-2mm and root gap will be 2-3mm.

Pls confirm , my all experts, that the ratio is correct or not.

Prasad

There is no set "ratio" for the weld joint. This is established by information you haven't provided. You haven't even stated what process you are using to make the weld....1-2mm Root Face may be trouble if you are using SAW. Is distortion an issue?

A little tip for Eng-Tips.....if you don't provide proper information, and double post threads, you will not get much help.[hairpull]

purode333, I highly recommend talking to the people who make the welds. Tell them everything you can. Find out what they ask that you don't know...

Regards,

Mike

The problem with sloppy work is that the supply FAR EXCEEDS the demand

There is nothing that controls the ratio. However if your concern is distortion, you can look in the AWS Welding Handbook, Volume 1, 9th edition, you will find a formula related to the question you ask. Chapter 7 is the location I think.

There are other variables to consider besides the depth of each Vee groove.

Dear sir,

Mr. David339933 sir, I have not post the threads double, intentionally.

For this questioning of double V, may be, I am in hurry or enthusiastic, to know the answer of question.

But sir, only to informed u that, in heavy thickness of 50mm, groove "depth" is very important and it is as standard practiced, mainly followed as 2/3 and 1/3.

I only write it, to confirmed only from eng-tips, as I believe on it..

I really believe and make real thanks to eng-tips for opening it for technical guidance and sharing this knowledge to all technical people.

Also please note that No one answer of my post of "Rail-electrode" question, only for information.

Sorry, if I write more, or hurt anyone.

Sorry and Thanks again to all/eng-tips for their response and expecting the same.

Regards
Prasad

If you are talking about this thread, you will (should) notice two things:
[ul]
[li]It has the same lack of information as here[/li]
[li]the replies were asking for more info, which was not given to us.[/li]
[/ul]

Purode333,
In your question on " Rail electrode" you did not specify whether you were joining two rails together or just building up wear.
For joining rails the thermite system I gave you a link to , is much faster and cleaner than SMAW , and would be the preferred method.
If you would reply with what you were really trying to do , you would get a better answer.
Remember nobody gets paid in these forums for sharing knowledge you would have to pay thousands of dollars/pounds /euros. to buy.

You are judged not by what you know, but by what you can do.
