reinforced concrete joints enlargement

hello eng tips, it said i have to enlarge the joint when the joint nominal shear strength (1.7(f'c)^0.5*Aj) is smaller than the the Vsway. how do you enalrge it? What does the enlarge joint look like in real conctruction? please attach some pics thank you [smile]

If it used to be 300 mm cubed, make it 400 mm cubed. Hard to post a pic of a joint that's 400 mm cubed now but used to be 300 mm cubed in the designers head. Or, perhaps that's every joint and it's just hard to tell.

I like to debate structural engineering theory -- a lot. If I challenge you on something, know that I'm doing so because I respect your opinion enough to either change it or adopt it.

One possible solution is to use higher strength concrete.
