Hi. Can anyone tell me where to get the calculation theory for reinforced concrete pipes (buried) as per AWWA C302 ?
In the AWWA Manual M9 is shown an example for the calculation of moments and thrusts in the crown, springline and invert sections, but I would like to get the design theory.

Thanks BigInch : I already knew that website and their docs. They have a software program "PIPECAR" that could fulfill my needs but I wanted to be sure that the program is not only calculation with unknown formulas, but that (may be in the "help" content) the theory is also explained.
Any further help will be appreciated

Hello;

there is tow kind of reinforcement pipes flexible and rigid for flexible i advise to use ( UDP V1.8 ) this program can design pre-stressed pipes for rigid pipes go to M11 there you can find what you need.
i have the program if you need give me the BAR rate and soil cover and soil density i can give you the results
(awwa M9,M11)

The book "Buried Pipe Design" by Moser has the design procedure. You can probably get it in a library.


Chapter 5 deals with various generic rigid pipe products. For each product, selected standards and material properties are listed. The standards are from standard organizations such as the American Water Works Association (AWWA) and American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM). Actual design examples for the various products are given in this chapter.

You could take college courses in reinforced concrete design, and then one in prestressed concrete design, and another in plates and shells in concrete, then one in soils and foundations analysis. That’s what the rest of us had to do. It all depends on how deep you want to dig. Of course, with today’s pretend imagineering thinking, if you don’t really want to know what you are doing, just Google it, its all there supposedly, and you’re an instant expert. Then there are also the industry standards which take into account the field conditions, field experience, etc., over and above the product design itself.
 
I found the correct answer : " ASCE 15 : Standard practice for direct design of buried precast concrete pipe using standard installations (SIDD)"

PS : to DHENGR - in all Europe there is no Standard such as ASCE 15 because all the university professors could not agree on the system of design because each one has a different opinion on concrete pipes. In fact the concrete pipe strength is detected with the three edge bearing test (TEB test)irrespectif of calculation of needed steel reinforcement amount. Are they all idiots ??
 
No. Each is simply far too smart.
It also tends to limit competition to national companies.
If you don't mind potentially higher prices, that's not always a bad thing.
