Hi,
We had a Contractor cut right through a #9 bar in a beam under repair. The bar is cut relatively near the existing lap.
Since development and lap splice lengths are rather significant for the large bar, we are considering a coupler to join the cut ends. What design considerations and/or restrictions do we need to be aware of? We are aware that the coupler needs to meet ASTM A1034, where coupler strength is required to be fy * 1.25.
Thanks!
