Relay setting and data base software 1

I am in process of evaluating and eventually buying relay setting software.Could users of relay setting and or setting database software like Aspen,CAPE,IOS or DigSilent etc care to share their expereince regarding pros and cons of different software

I use SynerGEE, and I am please with it.

I know of two other utilities in my area which use the Aspen One-Liner to set relays for their transmission lines.

Personally I regularly use SKM PowerTools - The CAPTOR module enables protection devices to be modelled and held in a database.

CAPTOR produces time / current curves which model actual relay settings vs calculated system fault levels and enable protection relay settings to be dragged on screen.

Firstly, I work for DIgSILENT in Australia so have a bias. I was working for another company up until 6-months ago and our evaluation showed that PowerWare (DIgSILENT's protection setting management platform) was by far the leader in this area. It has very comprehensive relays models, explicitly detailing every single relay setting and can even import/export settings directly for several vendors.

You can use the demonstration PowerWare server based in Germany over the internet if you want. Just go to

,choose Demo and fill in your details. You will then be sent a log-in and URL to the demo site. Alteratively, if your company is conducting a formal evaluation, DIgSILENT may provide you with a 3-month full license on request.

To AusPowEng: DIgSilent does look pretty good. I d/l'd a demo from them, and it looks TOTAL (fuse coordination, motor start, GIS integration, etc.)

The prices I was paying for SynerGEE w/protection coordination was $24,000, plus 16% per year for "maintenance" cost......pretty pricey. This did not include motor starting or interface to GIS or CAD. Those modules were "extra".

The ETAP equivelent was $34,000+.

I just hope DIgSilent can come in lower then SynerGEE or ETAP.

Gosh - your username takes so getting used to.

I assume from your reply that you have used the PowerFactory demo; of course this the integrated power system analysis package rather than the protection settings management database (PowerWare) that I was talking about.

With the pricing, I can assist with this but as with all packages there are various enabled features (ie. dynamic stabilty) and bus limits.
