Released parts opening as modified

When opening an assembly, several sub assemblies/components show up as modified immediately. Most of these are released in teamcenter, so I couldn't save them even if I wanted to.

I found this post from a few years ago that basically implies that there are many reasons that this could happen and not to worry about it, but was wondering if anything has changed in the past few years.

The only reason I care is because if I have all these supposedly modified parts in my assembly and make modifications to the assembly and save it, when I close the assembly I get a dialogue box that says: The following part has been modified: XXXXX Are you sure you want to close it? I get that message for EVERY single "modified" part or assembly. Like I said there seems to be no way around this because all the "modified" parts are read-only. In some cases I have to sit here and click up to 100 times to get my assembly to close!

Anyone have any insight on this?

It's probably because these parts were created in an older version of NX and what you're seeing is the normal updating of them to the lastest schema.

That being said, there is a way to update, using the 'refile_part' utility with the correct options set, even if these are released parts. This was covered recently in the following thread (go to the last entry for the actual details about how to go about accomplishing this):

I had thought of that, but it is strange that not all files that are released in a previous version of NX are showing up as modified. There doesn't really seem to be any rhyme or reason for the sporadic ones that do show up as modified.

That being said, I'm just one of hundreds of NX users at my company and I don't have the ability myself to run the refile utility. I'm trying to convince management that it needs to be done, but I need to better understand how the refile utility works. Can anyone tell me:
1. How long it would take to run (imagine a large company with tens of thousands of NX files in teamcenter)
2. What are the chances of files not converting correctly or what checks are in place to ensure a proper conversion?
