I have a machinist who is running a Renishaw probing system on our horizontal milling machines. We are fairly new to this and need to know how to connect a printer to the machine and output the results of an inspection. We do have the printer connected thru a RS232 cable. We have the probe program working the way we want but are not able to get the output. We are unsure if the format is correct or if we have other issues? Any help in this matter would be appreciated. Thanks.

Are you using the renishaw cycles?

Do you have the renishaw probing manual?

What type of machine is this, on some of the windows based controlers you can specify a file for the data to go to.

You can contact renishaw and talk with with the experts.

CandCQC,

What type of printer are you hooking up to the RS232 port? RS232 is a serial port which means you can only use a serial printer. Serial printers are hard to find and expensive. The easiest and cheapest way to print reports is to hook up an old PC to the RS232 port with a terminal program that has an automatic print function and hook up a cheap USB or parallel printer to the pc or save the ASCII data electronically and print what you want through a word processor application. If you have a serial printer, you have to match the communication settings from the printer (usually a series of dip switches) to the CNC controller. Good luck.
