I have a potential client who wants to get a repair plan from me (structural) for the connection of a gangplank to a small river dock. The connection seems fairly simple, just a channel and some bolts to the wood framing of the dock, but what is the loading I should use for it? Are there standards for this or is this just the assumed weight of the gangplank? I have attached some photos for reference.

What keeps the dock from floating down the river?

It looks like your gang plank is restraining the dock from floating away.

I'm thinking the dock should be anchored or tethered on it's own.

Then the gang plank can bear on top of the dock with no restrained connection at all.

Yea, thats a huge moment created my the dock on the gang plank. i can't imagine getting this to work out.

That whole thing looks like an accident waiting to happen.

So the owner has already bent the structure?

Any drawings of this thing?

I can see someone crossing the new gang plank just as the boat docks presumably in the U shaped inside and the whole thing moving several inches or just parting company with the dock structure.

but for loading I would assume at least 4 stout beer drinking fellows.

But this needs a total re-think IMHO.
