Replace parts in more assemblies.

Hi all,

For a administrative reason I need to save a lot of parts as an other part.
And in all assemblies where those parts are used, I need to replace the old for the new part.

I know it could be done by opening all assemblies and than perform a "Save As" on the part and then part is also changed in all the open assemblies.
But a lot of parts are already changed, and then I have to open (too) many assemblies at once.

So is there an other way to replace a part in more assemblies at once? In NX or Teamcenter?

There are command line utilities shipped with NX that can edit assembly files. Look for "ugpc.exe" and "ug_edit_part_names.exe", these will allow you to query and edit the assembly file component names/locations.

I'm not sure how well these utilities handle inter part links; if your files have wave links or inter part expressions and they were renamed at the OS level, the links may not update correctly.

I will see if I can find how to use these utilities.
We don't use wave linking, so that's no problem, and the files are renamed in NX with a "save as".

Isn't it possible to replace parts in TC?

I don't have enough Teamcenter experience to answer the TC part of the question. Hopefully someone else will share their experience with us.

If you open the Assembly as "structure only" and then did a replace component on those that have changed, and then saved the assembly, you may be able to save some time.
But I am going to try to find the time to look deeper into this and see if there are better ways.

Replacing the part should be go alright, but I would like to see if replacing the parts is indeed wend well. So Loading "Structure Only" is then not the best way to do it.

It would be good if there was something like "Impact Analyse" to find where a part is used in TC, and then a choice in which assy the part should be replaced.
