Hi,

I would like to request a meeting with a kind stranger willing to help me with my research. I am about to fail my thesis, and my supervisor is completely unhappy. I don't know why I can't grasp basic concepts. Perhaps engineering is not for me. I don't want to give up, so this is my last resort. Anyone willing to help me? My research is on developing a fatigue load model based on WIM data. I just want clarification on my methodology.

I had to google it ... "Weigh-in-Motion-Based Fatigue Damage Assessment". The objective of this paper is to analyze and compare statistical parameters of a live load in the US and Europe using available WIM data.

but that doesn't mean much to me ... other than I think he's doing building fatigue loads.

Yes, essentially that’s what am doing. Specifically for bridge design. Similar to Eurocode format.
 
MS or PhD thesis?
Have you discussed your problems in detail with your professor? And what was his/her advice?
Have you talked to other professors in your department?
Have you researched the literature for similar models? What did you learn?
Where are you located?
 
have to think ... it's a bit late now to figure out you don't have a grasp of the basics; but better late than never.

give us a clue ...
is it basic fatigue analysis that stumps you,
or this specialised "WIM" analysis ?

Is "WIM" part of a building/bridge code ? then there should be lots of people to help explain it (call the code people ?)
or just a new idea ? then much fewer people (the authors of the method ?)

How did you do in relevant coursework? Are you missing a prereq that would've made this easier? For example, are you running into Theory of Elasticity PDEs having never seen those before? Have you had a class like Mechanical Behavior of Materials that would've introduced fatigue and fracture?
