Hello, I am an engineer at a small medical device company and have hired an engineering firm to develop a medical device for our company. The first document I have been charged with providing them is a "Request for Proposal" or a "Request for Quotation".

Since I am an engineer, I know that it is convenient to provide qualitative and quantitative requirements for this engineering firm. Does anybody know of a template, tool, or example I can use for this RFP or RFQ? I have searched the Internet for RFP's and RFQ's but come up with only large civil engineering projects RFP's.

Thanks in advance!

Medical devices are specialized, so random RFPs are not likely to capture the specifics that apply to a potentially life threatening system. Nevertheless, the following is one of many on the web, and should at least show you the general items to be covered. Again, you need to consult with your company to find out if there are FDA, or whoever, that might have specific requirements imposed on a medical device that you need to include in your RFP.

Note that RFQ would be for something that should be essentially off-the-shelf, or only requires minor customization. And RFP is intended to solicit proposals for the development, fabrication, testing, etc., of a custom item.

Right, this isn't a pacemaker or anything like that. I'm just looking for something basic to get started. Did you post a link?
