Residual stress

Hi everyone !

I would like to obtain the residual stress after a simulation of stamping and reintroduce it into a the formed part to make further structural analysis. So i have a few questions.

The first one would be, is ABAQUS the adapted software to do that ? i would use plastic and hardening and the deformation would be hight and i think FEM software like ABAQUS, ANSYS and NX can be trusted only for low deformations. So i am inclined to any proposition of other software if that is the case.

And then how can i reintroduce the residual stress i obtained ?

[FEA way]

Abaqus is great choice for pretty much all nonlinear structural mechanics analyses. It can be used to simulate metal forming (also with explicit solver) and evaluate residual stresses resulting from the process. Import capability will let you use stresses from forming simulation for further analysis. I’m sure that ANSYS can do it as well but I would pick Abaqus for such simulation.

Abaqus has two solvers - Standard (implicit) and Explicit. Both are always included and there’s no modularity in case of this software. So when you buy Abaqus, it’s fully functional.
